Waterfront properties universally experience some level of erosion where the land meets the water. If the shore is earth rather than solid rock, as is usually the case in the Puget Sound region, the erosion can be more pronounced. The Puget Sound region has conditions that differ from other regions, requiring local knowledge to develop appropriate measures for protecting shorelines. The State of Washington has produced a comprehensive document called Marine Shoreline Design Guidelines to give the needed insight for those projects.
